The Importance Of The American Dream - 1231 Words

The United States used to be seen as a place where anything was possible; it was where people went when they wanted to be successful and powerful. The American Dream or the idea that everyone in the U.S. has an equal opportunity to succeed has been around since 1931. The problem with the American dream today is that in reality people don’t have the same opportunities as they used to. The American Dream may actually just be a dream with no real evidence to prove it’s true. Rana Foroohar, author of â€Å"What Ever Happened to Upward Mobility,† discusses why the American Dream isn’t the same as it used to be and how other countries are doing better at providing equality and opportunity than the United States. Gregory Mantsios, author of â€Å"Class†¦show more content†¦The people at the bottom don’t have much of a chance to succeed if they can’t make any money. The United States doesn’t provide the same opportunities for everyo ne. Some of these opportunities include education, health insurance, and the ability to get a job. A person has different opportunities depending on their class. A person in a lower class will not usually have the ability to go to a nice school based on where they live. They also won’t be able to afford health insurance or trips to the doctors (Mantsios). People don’t like to talk about it, but there is a problem with discrimination in America. According to Mantsios, â€Å"Regardless of their class standing, women and members of minority races are constantly dealing with institutional forces that are holding them down precisely because of their gender, the color of their skin, or both† (296). This isn’t fair to the people who are discriminated against because they have no control over it. The gender or race of a person doesn’t change their ability to do certain jobs. The American Dream states that anybody can succeed no matter what their race and gender are. This proves that the American Dream has changed because of the people at the top who make the most money. These people shouldn’t have to be poor based on other people’s decisions. Polarization Is Increasing. Good Or Bad, The Electorate

Polarization is increasing. Good or bad, the electorate is dividing more and more down party lines. Voters are struggling against each other in increasingly rigid groups with increasingly rigid ideologies. In Polarized Public Alan Abramowitz catalogs the data showing this trend through time (2013). The trend towards the poles of American politics has continues since his studies and shows no sign of stopping. Abramowitz gives some historical insight into the increasing division between political parties. He traces the split to the Civil Rights Movement; before then leaders of both parties were mixed geographically instead of straight down ideological lines (p. 17). When Civil Rights for African Americans became a defining political†¦show more content†¦This made whites worried that other groups have too much power; Abramowitz points out that white flight of â€Å"racially resentful† voters from the Democratic Party to the Republican Party has increased racial polariz ation down party lines (p. 35). Now Democrats rely more and more on the votes of any group of nonwhite voters. Nonwhite voters are generally more accepting of activist government, so Democrats are as well, so fiscal conservatives flee the Democratic party, so economics are polarized as well (p.33). It is this kind of cascading polarity that has caused the American electorate to separate more and more. One thing leads to another and everyone winds up on opposite sides. This is noted not only in issues of race, but in many areas. In areas of religion the voters used to be mixed across parties; Catholics were generally Democratic and Protestants were generally Republican in 1960 (p.66). The two religions started mixing by Conservative or Liberal values instead of religions and now, as Abramowitz puts it, â€Å"as the Catholic-Protestant split has diminished, a new religious divide has emerged among white voters - a divide between the religious and nonreligious† (p. 67). Here too issues cascade; as the Republican Party becomes more religious as a whole it becomes the defender of religious values, causing it to gain more religious followers, causing it to be more religious as a whole, and on down the line. Vacant Chapter 8 Celebrate Free Essays

â€Å"Happy anniversary!† Emily yells at me as I exit the bathroom having just completed my morning ritual. She’d be disgusted if she knew everything it entailed, not to mention the full coverage robe I was supposed to buy, which means Emily still walks around in tiny towels. Of course, I spend extra time in the shower stroking out my morning wood so that I’m able to have some semblance of decency the rest of the day. We will write a custom essay sample on Vacant Chapter 8 Celebrate or any similar topic only for you Order Now Walking around with an Emily induced boner would certainly make our situation uncomfortable. While the topic of dating and relationships hasn’t been broached since January, that doesn’t mean it has gone away. Instead, it’s been the elephant in the room for eight long months. â€Å"Is there an anniversary song?† Emily asks jokingly. â€Å"There’s one for birthdays.† She starts singing Happy Birthday, replacing â€Å"birthday† with â€Å"anniversary.† I can’t help but smile given the joy the woman before me holds for the simplest of things. â€Å"It’s two years today, Ethan; two years ago you came over and opened my window, two years since you recognized I was alone and in need. Two years ago you opened your home and heart to a perfect stranger.† When she says heart quieter than the rest, mine skips a beat. Her voice wavers at the end of her speech, indicating tears are about to follow. I reach out to her, pull her into me, and hold her tightly as she surrenders to the sadness. This is the only touch I’m allowed – the only appropriate embrace. Looking in the mirror, I see a man whose extraordinarily proud. While I may not be the mama bird watching her baby bird fly from the nest, there is still pride deep in my chest. Emily graduates today from high school. It’s an accomplishment, which given the circumstances, is astounding. Today is special, and it’s the first time I’ve ever worn a tie, so I check it one last time. My tie isn’t the only surprise I have for Emily today. I purchased my very first car this morning, and I plan to drive Emily to her graduation in a 1998 Toyota Corolla. It belonged to Margie, my boss, but her husband bought her a new one. He sold me the Corolla with 160,000 miles at an unreasonably low price. I’d say he was giving me a bit of charity, but no matter, it’s mine. Mine and Emily’s. â€Å"Get-out!† Emily shouts moments later as she looks at the champagne colored car parked on the street and then back at me. Her mouth is hanging open, unsure of what to say. â€Å"Come on; get in. We have a graduation to get to.† â€Å"Your brother is way hot,† I hear the blonde say. Emily doesn’t respond, but another high-pitched voice does. â€Å"That’s not her brother, you clueless bitch.† Emily told me about this once, where females call each other names as terms of endearment, but I don’t get it. If one of the guys at the store called me a bastard or asshole, I’d punch his face, endearment aside. â€Å"Gretchen†¦Ã¢â‚¬ I hear Emily plead. â€Å"Please don’t.† â€Å"What? He’s not – which, of course begs the question, why aren’t you bangin’ his brains out, little Emily Evans?† Truth be told, I want to know Emily’s response. It’s not like I haven’t thought about it a thousand times, but I’m curious to know if she thinks about it too. â€Å"I have to – † then I hear footsteps rapidly retreating. I decide to make myself known and walk out of the hallway where I’ve been hiding since the conversation seems to be over. â€Å"Hey, Ethan, you just missed Emily.† The blonde motions down the hall in the direction Emily went. I follow. The sound hits me immediately as I near a classroom with an open door. Thankfully, it’s a sound I haven’t heard for a while, but hearing it now cuts me like a hot knife through cold butter. â€Å"Emily?† I call to her as I enter the nearly empty room. The desks and chairs are stacked, waiting patiently for another round of students in the fall. Emily looks up, red-faced and glassy-eyed. She regards me for a moment, then bursts into another round of sobs. For a second, I think about how ugly crying is. I think Emily is beautiful, but the way her face contorts†¦ it’s just so unattractive. This crying mess in front of me doesn’t look like Emily at all. Then the few remaining scraps of humanity I think I have left kick in, and those superficial and negative thoughts float away. All I’m seeing now is my Emily in pain – and I want to make it stop. I go to her as fast as my legs can carry me and take her in my arms, holding her close. We’ve only embraced a few times, but for me, it’s special every time. After several minutes, Emily has calmed and she raises her head to look at me. Her eyes are clear now, and as she gazes into my eyes, I think about how beautiful she is. It’s all I can do not to place my lips over hers. We’re so close that just a few inches forward would connect us. I want her so much sometimes it’s hurts. But that’s not meant to be, and my sinful thoughts have to remain hidden. â€Å"Ethan, I have to tell you something. Well, ask you something, really. I mean I’m going to tell you something, but then I’m going to – † I cut her off by placing my hand gently over her mouth. She rambles when she’s nervous, plus my hand will keep me from kissing her. â€Å"Deep breath,† I coach her and myself. After a few relaxing sighs, I encourage her to start again. â€Å"You can tell me anything, Emily. I’m here for you. You can trust me.† But never in a million years would I expect what she says next. â€Å"Ethan, I love you.† How to cite Vacant Chapter 8 Celebrate, Essay examples

Developing Competencies for Existing Networking - myassignmenthelp

Question: Discuss about theDeveloping Competenciesfor Existing Networking Skills. Answer: As we know that network engineers are positioned at the core of the network foundation, they must be able to deeply understand the network infrastructure as well as the applications running on them. Network is considered as the nucleus of the entire technologies that has the ability to combine all applications, the network engineer must integrate these applications together. Having advances such as automation of entire system and SDN, systems of today are custom-made around the entire applications that are running crosswise over them. Accordingly, engineers must have the capacity to comprehend application need, understanding network traffic, and other arrangement to streamline information transport. (Froehlich, A., 2017). System designers can work internally or externally depending on the requirement and size of the organization. They will likely guarantee the uprightness of high accessibility networking environment to give most extreme execution to their clients. Users might be staff, customers, clients and providers. Networking engineer is the main person who is responsible for installation, analysis, engineering as well as execution of new frameworks and advances like Software Defined Networking; setting and keeping up global system specialized benchmarks; give improved framework abilities and development; give consultation to tasks and system organization. (Performance recruitment inc., 2017). Being a network engineer in IT department in Education sector, my job duties include responsibilities such as planning, installation, maintenance, investigating troubleshooting or test systems. I am responsible to configure as well as installation of hardware networking devices like switches, routers, firewalls and VPN QoS. I am also responsible to perform network support as well as any network updates that includes service packs, patches, hot fixes or any other security configuration. By utilizing Command Line Interface (CLIs), I use to configure layer 3 routers, switches etc. I evacuate or install information outlet which incorporates testing and fixing Ethernet links and repairing any data ports. By using GUI application to provision, I use to install, configure or analyze any remote access points. (https://resources.workable.com, 2017). Developing Networking Competencies The modern organization's enterprise information and communication technology (ICT) must needs some adaptable, varying bandwidth alternatives. The demand of enhanced bandwidth is expanding exponentially over different networking techniques going from private multiprotocol switching (MPLS) systems to public or private wireless network. It requires another innovation design that can give agile as well as ensured execution relying upon the particular applications which is being used. The implementation of secure, hybrid networking device for secure, hybrid IT organizing is a communication service provider (CSP) which is virtual private system (VPN) which is capable for delivering good quality voice, video, as well as business information applications to the scope of business areas. My main aim is to develop the following competencies so that I can be a better asset for the organization: (Munroe, 2017). Configuring Virtual Profile for Virtual Network In order to minimize the installation cost of networking, we can use virtual networking in the organization. As virtual networking is the main area of interest for todays networking. The high speed routing as well as packet forwarding and in addition encryption whether it is IPsec or SSL and balance traffic load, it all depends on the dedicated silicon. For all these activities, a dedicated hardware must be required that leads to increase in the networking expenses. Therefore, these days virtual networking is in trend. Virtualized networking is used when firewall as well as other routing functions that are actualized as a component of the virtual switch in every hypervisor. This could bring about ideal traffic flow between virtual machines whether they have a place with a similar IP subnet or not and take care of the issue of network traffic. (Pepelnjak, I., 2017). It is very flexible in terms of increasing number of users for future. No extra cabling expenses needs to bear by the organization. It is the secure way for communicating with its remote staff. This type of networking will help to increase the productivity of the organization. The other staff of the organization in this working environment have a tendency to dedicate less time and vitality to ordinary office schedules and more to clients. The option working environment additionally can give organizations an edge in competing forand keepingskilled, profoundly energetic representatives. (Apgar, M., 1998). Configuring VOIP Devices - Viable communication helps the organization for performing work very effectively on time and within specified budget. Administrators as well as group pioneers who can impart, and relay targets, ideas and particular tasks in a succinct and lucid way, utilizing the correct options. It helps to contribute to the business in a positive way. Organizations utilize intranets, applications, messages and video calls to speak with workers crosswise over offices and areas. Business intranets have additionally turned into the standard in overseeing information including rules, methods, conventions, corporate reports, marking, logos as well as different assets. Innovations like VoIP (Voice over IP) are decreasing the requirement for customary telephones while WebRTC (Web Real Time Communications) empowers video conferencing from better places far and wide utilizing standard programs and applications. (Elcom, 2016). By implementing VOIP in the organization, the staff would be able to work in a quiet library or can connect with other members of the team. VOIP devices will help the staff to easily move between desk and other room and can easily make the call if they are not on the desk. It will help to increase the mobility of staff and hence the organization can work in more efficient way. The essential purpose behind this change is the lessening of operational cost where VOIP innovation has progressed and can support voice over the network. I'll get into the system as well as hardware segments required to set this framework up, with the networking design. (Aruba Networks, n.d). Configuring New Switches - The most ideal approach to get more execution from the client's system is by enhancing LAN execution. That will be taken care of by great design including things like 100-Megabit or Gigagbit Ethernet switches with Layer 3 and VLAN abilities. Those center system tools are creating advances that will be vital for developing better network infrastructure like VoIP that place more requests on systems. The other quality of network is its reliability. As our customer utilizes multimedia devices like mobiles, IM and Video etc. It's essential that they have a dependable Internet association and an advanced switch. The quality of service with voice and video will turn out to be imperative. (Vlasach, M., 2008). Innovative Practices that can be used to Develop Competencies In order to enhance new competencies in configuring a network, I will choose which security convention to run with. SSL/TLS, IPSec, PPTP, and L2TP are the absolute VPN protocols, with SSL and IPSec demonstrating most prominent with corporate clients. Adaptability is another central point to consider when setting up the VPN. The devices in Layer 2 must be in a flat system with minimum control broadcasts or to filter the undesirable network traffic. Data about the present network and administrations is assembled and must be analyzed. It is important to look at the usefulness of the current system with the characterized objectives of the new task. Utilizing VLANs and IP subnets is the most widely recognized technique for isolating user groups as well as the network traffic in the access layer network. Ordering information at or close to the source empowers the information to be assigning the priority when movement is all along the network traffic. Isolating traffic with comparative qualities into classes, and after that denoting that movement, is a capacity of the devices at the distribution layers. A case of this system is to put the voice activity on an access switch into a solitary VLAN. The devices at that point denotes the movement beginning from the voice VLAN with the most astounding need. (https://www.scte.org/, n.d). Adding VOIP to the network can be a critical extra load for the entire network. I have to ensure it can deal with the extra traffic easily, with no discernable delay during making calls. Also, IP calls signals must be clear and strong enough for the calls put on the PSTN. By deploying IP PBX framework or adding a voice protocol to the system is challenging; it influences the whole system, from ability to execution. So, I would like to work with my seniors so that I can get the right solution. (Sampson, P., 2011). Conclusions Configuring VPN as well as its operations are presently business-based. Profound abilities, demonstrated techniques and powerful procedures are vital to satisfying organization particular objectives at moderate cost and for making a future-confirmation, the agile solution that can adjust to evolving needs. A prime illustration is Managed VPN Services. This solution grants outstanding economies of networking expenses for the entire network while delivering an enduring change in quality ensured by the supplier's operational magnificence.
